One of my greatest joys in life is being a stay-at-home dad — a role I’ve been lucky enough to hold through most of my kids’ childhood.
The challenge, of course, is that I’m on the West Coast. When the market opens at 6:30 a.m., I’m usually making breakfast and getting the kids up.
And during that 8:00–8:30 a.m. transition window in the market? I’m in the car line taking them to school. It’s a constant juggling act between markets and family.
Normally, I can still get the Daily Update out right after the close, before I have to pick my son up at 1:40. But today is different.
First: it’s one of those volatile days where there’s simply more to cover, and that means the update is going to take longer to put together.
Second: after school, I promised my son we’d stop by the mall — but not just any mall. The one where we’ve spent countless afternoons over the years, grabbing lunch in the food court, a pretzel from Auntie Anne’s, or wandering through the holiday displays.

You see, it’s closing down soon — almost a ghost town already — and today might be our last chance to walk through it together, something he’s sentimental about.
(As for the girl, well, I asked her if she wanted to go, and she said, “Nah, I’m good.”)
So the Daily Update will be delayed — not by much, but a little. Thanks for understanding.
